The Kiwanis Club of Wilton Manors supports both the “Journey of Hope” Program at Chris Evert Children’s Hospital and the “Beads of Courage” Program at Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital, resilience-based interventions designed to encourage, support, and strengthen children and families coping with serious illnesses. Children tell their stories using colorful beads as meaningful symbols of courage to commemorate milestones they have achieved along their unique treatment path. As their journey begins, each child is given a length of string and beads that spell out their first name. As their treatment progresses, the child is given colorful beads after each milestone he or she has completed.
